Planning Meeting for 2007 ChangeMakers in Taranaki

from Dave:

Hi all, I hope this doesn't come all higgly piggly in format.

Seven of us came to the planning meeting: Sue, David, vivian, Raewyn, Antona, Lynne and Dave on 12 February.

After dinner, we engaged in a process of individually writing our understanding of the “What For?” of ChangeMakers. We also considered how ChangeMakers is different from other groups we’ve belonged to. We also watched a half hour video of a speech by Paul Hawken on the emergence of global community action.

One term Hawken used, which I am going to take the liberty to use in the summary below. In lieu of “social change” I am going to use social justice — which I think better describes our intention: an aim toward justice rather than “change” which could mean anything, including endless, meaningless restructuring.

We decided to have another meeting on 5 March (7:30) at the Garage.

Again, anyone wanting to be involved in the design and direction of our groups is invited. At this meeting …

• we agreed that we would each re-read the evaluation that was sent out last year and be prepared to discuss it with an eye to making changes to the design of the 5-10-5-10 meetings

• we will design the introductory weekend

• we will set the perimeter dates for the coming season of meetings.
